Jessica sidled up closely to Raven. "Take your wand out and pay attention, girl."

Raven did what she was told as she waited for further instruction. By now she was used to the coldness that the professor as well as her own coven gave her. I knew she ain't gonna like me, the blond thought, but one thing couldn't escape her mind...the prior morning she was, well, nice to her when they were in the garden. When Kishna turned the gardenia into the Texan Star Flower, she was impressed with her ability to actually show some sort of kindness, something her own brothers claim she doesn't have...well, unless you actually impress her. Guess that's what I get fur cuttin short a professa.

Raven also couldn't get over the fact that Professor Kishna prejudged her by assuming she didn't read the chapters before coming to class. Of course, Raven didn't read any of her textbooks, but it wasn't like Kishna, or anyone else, knew. Raven had a room basically to her self and when she's in her coven tower, noone ever talked to her save it be her brothers; so there's no way anyone would know if she studies or not.

Jessica lingered at Raven’s station. “It seems such a waste to me,” she began. “Tell me what makes you believe you are a Ceridwen? You emerge from the flames, still wearing wings and a tail, you smart mouth me on the first night, you bear the shame on your back the entire way to the tower and pay for it the next day…” she grinned as she thought of the punishment for that prank once again.

“And here you are now, waltzing in late to my class.” Jessica shook her head, reaching into her robes for something.

“I believe this is yours,” she handed her the red flower. “Every year, I select five students, one from each coven, and ask them to transfigure something. Every year, the only coven to take me up on the offer…is my own,” she sneered at Raven. She leaned in closer and whispered, “So tell me girl, who exactly you think you are fooling?”

Jessica straightened up, not waiting for the answer. “I will be watching, Miss Whitefeather. Carry on.” She left Raven to her thoughts and walked back to the center of the room.

Raven stood there unable to move. She stared at her wand and beans before her unable to do anything as her own thoughts dwelled within her. There wasn't a bright side to look at and her own muse left her. There was no smile or any emotion on her face, just nothing.

Nearing her breaking point, she didn't have the energy to care anymore. Against her better judgement, she stayed in the classroom, even though she wanted nothing more than to leave, but what was the point? She had nowhere to escape to. Every nook and cranny of this place reminded her of how much she wasn't needed. How many more times does she need to be reminded that she would never belong? How many more times does she need to be reminded that she would be hated by her entire coven? How many more times does she need to be reminded that, "I'm not wanted," she whispered softly to herself not caring if anyone heard or not.

Raven learned from a young age to not care what others say about her, but she just can't get over the fact that no one saw her for her, save it be her family and, on a slight chance, Lina, her only friend. No one saw Raven for her positive personality or for any of her strengths; they only saw the negative, and that upset her the most. What's da point in tryin? she gave up, she a'ready judged me; she ain't ever gonna see the true me, only some failure. With that thought in mind, her age finally showed as tears fell from her eyes. An eleven-year-old can only not care about something for so long.

"Guess I've been foolin myself," she said softly to herself. She didn't see the point in explaining herself to Kishna. She didn't see the point in telling her that she always wanted to be in Ceridwen, that she didn't care what others thought of her, or even that she didn't want to be late to class... None of that mattered since Raven felt that Kishna wouldn't care.

After about 10 minutes of Raven standing there mumbling to herself and having tears running down her face, she finally picked up her wand and stared at the beans. She lacked caring if she did well or not and, without a second thought, she did the proper wand movements and whispered the words, "escarabajo."

Jessica watched her first year, wondering what would come next. She is a wild card, that one.

She eyed her wand movement--her form, and finally, she let loose with the spell...and nailed it.

Jessica beamed and then quickly composed herself. She joined Raven at her workstation, putting her hand on her shoulder. "That," she said, pointing at the perfect beetle scurrying around on the desk, "is why you are Ceridwen. Don't forget it, Raven."

She dropped her hand and addressed the class. "Miss. Whitefeather has successfully transfigured her bean into a perfect beetle...on the first try. She earns an Outstanding and 25 points for her coven.

"Congratulation, Miss. Whitefeather. You may clean up and you are dismissed."

She winked at the girl and walked back to the center of the room.

Raven still didn't feel anything. She wasn't proud nor excited that she was able to get it perfectly on the first try, she just felt nothing. Kishna was able to break her, and that was something no one was able to do, not even a Kelly-Leigh tag team. Sure she got angry, but she never, EVER broke down like she did.

"I ain't in Ceridwen cause of this," she mumbled. Raven never cared if she was able to Transfigure the bean into a beetle or not; all she ever wanted was to be acknowledged by her coven; if that was impossible, than at least be treated like everyone else. So, this is what it takes ta be accepted inta Ceridwen, Raven thought; her mind still reeling with Kishna's hurtful words and actions, as well as the hurtful actions of her coven, if that's it, then I want nuthin ta do with it.

Raven hurried and packed her still unopened book into her purple book-bag, put her wand back into her jacket, and dashed out of the classroom as fast as she could, but not before mumbling as she passed Kishna, "I'm in Ceridwen for me and no otha."

Raven practically ran down the hall towards the coven tower, too upset to care that she'll most likely be alone. Maybe Cameron would be there, she hoped with all her heart.
