Waking up in the Hospital Wing

<<ooc: Since Raven and I missed our afternoon class roleplay since we left to go to Fanime, we thought that we would catch up by waking up in the hospital after an accident of some sort [you can god-mod what happened; we're stuck in traffic with nothing to do]>>

When Evangelina's eyes flicker open, she had no idea where she was. The last thing she remembered was walking to lunch with Raven, then everything went black.

Groaning, she pulled herself up into a seated position, wincing at the pain that was centered on the side of her head. What happened, she thought to herself, and where am I?

Lina rubbed her sore eyes, peering through her fingers at the room around me. There were beds all lined up next to each other on both sides of the room with screens to separate each bed. I think I'm guessing I'm in the hospital wing, she concluded. Looking to her left, she noticed that she wasn't alone.

"A'right, on da count of three...one...two...three" a large man counted off. He had dirty blonde hair and ice blue eyes. He wore a red flannel shirt and dark jeans. He was sitting on a bench with a small, blonde girl in his lap. Around them were many, many children and adults with blondish hair and various shades of blue eyes. Each and every one of them sang to the small girl in the man's lap...three of them with instruments, a guitar, fiddle, and violin.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Bobbi-Lyn. Happy Birthday to you!!" they all sang in various southern accents, some thicker than others. There were lots of cheering and clapping as the little girl gave a huge smile to everyone around her.

The man hugged her and gave her a blue box, "I know urr Ma and Pa wanted ta give ya this, but since urr my fav'rite neice, and urr Pa gave the ok, I present ya with urr present." He paused as the girl opened the box to reveal a nicely, carved black wand. "Happy birthday Bobbi-Lyn."

"Ugh…" Raven groaned, waking from a very happy dream. She felt abnormally warm underneath the crisp white sheets and matching comforter of the bed. Wait a minute? Where the world am I?

Panicking, she threw the covers from her body. Even though the cotton was feather soft against her skin, Raven felt agitated by the fabric. Looking to both sides of her, she noticed that she wasn't alone. "Lina?" she questioned, "where in the heck are we?"

Looking back at Raven, Lina gave her a slight smile, "we're in the hospital wing." With that, she grabbed her head to make the room stop spinning. since sitting up, she had a lot of dizzy spells, but she summed it up to sitting up too fast. When she felt fine, she asked, "Do you know what happened? I remember walking, than, that's it."

Raven had to think long and hard...wha did happen? She opened her mouth, then quickly closed it. As she back tracked the events of the day. A'right, I woke up and went to the gardens...afta that, I went to class...then I was walkin in the hallways with Lina...then... nothing. Raven couldn't remember anything after walking in the hallway. "I can't rememba nothing afta the hallway," she replied apologetically.

Raven comed her hand through her hair and stopped on a rather large bump on the back of her head. A goose egg? she thought as she touched it. If she didn't put pressure on it, it didn't hurt, but she knew it was bruised. I really do wish I can rememba.

"That's as far as I can remember as well," Lina said with an unreadable expression on her face. On the inside, she was upset that she couldn't remember what happened to the two of them, but what worried her even more was the fact that she missed class, after all, Lina was a bookworm through and through.

Walking into the room while reading her notes, Nurse Coraline wondered just what sort of crop of students they gotten this year. So far it's been moonie girls and clueless boys, and now I got Hanna and Montana to patch up...

"Hello, girls," she chirped. She gave the girls' heads a quick examination, then pulled up a chair. "Well, he good new is, my dears, that you're in good health save for a minor concussion you've both suffered," she said, sitting. She crossed her legs, the action perhaps a little more stern that she had planned, but, yeah, that happens sometimes. "The bad news is that you were out walking in a storm and got beaned by a tree limb, and you both should know better, 'cause you're very lucky it didn't land squarely on your heads, else..." She hummed Marche funèbre while pretending to bow a violin. "I'd be boxing you up for a last trip home."

She let that last part sink in before continuing. "The healing potion I gave you should get rid of that concussion and have you back to normal in a few hours, but for now I'm confining you to the hospital. I'll check on you later tonight and if I think it's okay to send you back to your covens I will--otherwise you'll be bunking her for the night.

"Any questions?"

Guess that explains why my head hurts so much, Raven thought to herself. Rubbing the back of her head, one thing still bothered her, "Ma'am, I was wond'ring that if we'll get our mem'ry's back 'cause we can't remember anythin afta walking the hallways to the dinin' hall."

Raven glanced over at Lina trying to see any reaction out of her, but her own thoughts dragged her sight back to the nurse. "And, uh, will the healin' potion get rid of this goose egg?" she asked the nurse showing her the bruised bump on the back of her head.

"The potions you're getting will take care of that swelling," Coraline said. "In a few hours that bimp on your head should be gone. As for your memories--" Coraline picked up her reports and examined them. "You were heading off to the Bastion for your flying lesson, but rather than taking the tunnels you were hopping and skipping along, hung a left a History so you could muck though the rain--and up come the wind, snapped a branch, and bang!" She slapped the paper hard on the stand next to her. "You get hit, you go down, you get brought here to be placed in my tender, loving hands." Her smile was broad and radiant, as if she really were enjoying this moment.

"I can't say if you'll get your memory back, Raven." She folded her hands across her stomach and stretched her legs. "In this weather you shouldn't have been outside, but rather using the tunnels to get to class. In the future, keep that in mind." She touched a finger to her lips. "Unless you end up like that guy from Memento, in which case you won't even remember this conversation in a few minutes."

Coraline stretched her arms; it had been a long day and she was ready for a nap. "If there's any consolation, your flying class was canceled--as were all classed." Just then the wind picked up and a slow howl passed through the hospital. "It's like a mini-hurricane out there, and flying was the first to get canceled. The Headmistress knows our self-proclaimed 'Mistress of the Broom' and she'd have had you out flying in his mess." Coraline picked up the charts and set them in her lap. "And then I'd have had the whole lot of you in here."

Evangelina felt realieved that she didn't miss any more of her classes, but she did feel a bit upest that she didn't have the chance to participate...and she practiced too.

The dizziness started to get to her when she felt like vomitting "um, miss...um..nurse? Is the dizziness, um, normal? Everything keeps on moving in circles." By this time Evangelina was swaying from side to side. She thought it best to lay back down, but the dizziness did't go away

Grabbing a bed pan, Coraline slipped it onto the girl's chest, then headed to the nearest cabinet. "That's the concussion. It's going to play hell with your brain for a while." She removed a bottle with a muddy-looking concoction in it, then poured out two fingers of the noxious liquid. She was quickly at the girl's side, giving her little sips of the potion.

"This is going to help a more," she said. "The first potion I gave you should do the trick, but it sounds like you probably took more of a bump. So this is going to speed up recovery." Coraline felt Lina's forehead. "I'm for sure keeping you overnight. It sounds like you're a little worse off that first thought."

She stood when Lina was through with the potion. "I'd hang on to that bedpan," she said as she waled to the nearest sink to rinse the glass. "Just in case."

Laying down, Lina let her eyes shut to make the dizziness subside. She was glad that she didn't remember the hit on the head because she believed if she did, the pain would probably be a lot worse. She started to feel bad that she didn't want to go back to the coven tower at the moment, but she felt comfortable where she was.

Soon, her tiredness took over as she fell asleep.

Even though she felt fine, other than the bump on her head, Raven felt bad that Lina was injured far worse than herself. Raven stood up and walked over to Lina's side and sat beside her. She moved Lina's hair away from her face as she looked at her with great concern. Looking up to Nurse Gallagher, Raven asked, "Ma'am, is it alright if I stay next ta her tonight? She doesn't have many friends here, and, um, having a friend near by might make her fell betta, doncha reckon?"

Coraline didn't see any harm in allowing Raven stay with her friend. "You can stay, but I don't want you up and about," she said, directing Raven back to her own bed. "You're injured as well, and you need bed rest as well." She gave her a concerned looked. "I'll check on you later, but for now I wants you on your back, resting."

Patting Raven's cheek, Coraline said, "I'll be back in a while to check on you. Stay in your bed or I'll send an elf to tie you up." She gave her a wink. "I'll send someone around to get you some dinner if you're feeling hungry later." And with that Coraline headed down the rest of the wing, looking to see if anyone new had ended up on the losing side of a tangle with this storm.

The next morning, 5 AM:

Coraline came into the girl's section and gave them a quick check with her wand while they slumbered. Yeah, that knocked them out like I thought it would. The feelings she received from her magical probe told Coraline the girls were, if not 100%, at least Ivory Soap ready for the world.

She clapped her hands, watching the girls waked. "Morning, sleepy heads," she said. "I know it's early, but I'm discharging you so you can get to your towers, clean and change, and get something to eat before class." She gave them both a little squeeze on their shoulders. "Now the next time there's a storm, use the tunnels! Okay?"

She stepped back and made shooing motions with her hands. "Off you go! Hope not to see you soon, either!"

Evangelina rolled out of bed without much of a complaint. She still felt a bit groggy, but she was more hungry than anything. She really didn't say much to Nurse Gallagher when she shooed them away, but she did smile and thanked her. Today looks like it'll be a good day.

Raven was a bit disoriented when she woke up, but the bump on her head and the pain were both gone amd for that she was greatful. As she walked out of the hospital wing with Lina, Raven said, "thank you, ma'am." With that, she walked back to the coven tower to change clothes.
