Wednesday began her class set up. She pointed her wand at the heavy wooden, flip top desks, shooting off two spells in rapid succession.

“Pluma pondus; Locomotor desks,” she said, moving them effortlessly to the sides of the long, rectangular room. Once they were out of the way, she conjured three large wooden doors, placing them side-by-side right in the center. She covered the stark white walls with various charts, diagramming the spells they would be learning tomorrow.

The first week of classes were always an exciting time at the Institute, and she took that first meeting with her first years seriously. She already heard a lot about her students from the professors, but there was nothing like actually meeting someone to get a feel for what they could—or could not, do.

Still, first year charm spells were downright boring. “You gotta start somewhere,” she said to the empty room. She took out her wand and pointed it at the lock of the first door. “Colloportus,” she said and the click of the latch engaging echoed off the walls. She continued with each of the other two doors, checking to make sure everything was in working order.

Only when she was satisfied that the doors were in perfect working order for her students did she made her way to the entrance of the classroom. She gently flicked off the lights and left.

Wednesday entered her classroom to see all of her students seated in the desks lined up along the front of the classroom. She greeted them all warmly with a big smile.

“Welcome to Charms, witches...and wizards.” She winked at the two young males flanked by first year girls. “I’m your professor, Wednesday Douglas. Please take out your wands and put everything else out of my sight. Books, paper, quills—none of that unessential stuff is allowed in my classroom.”

She directed their attention to the walls around the room. “You will all find that every major spell we will work on this year along with the essential material from the textbook is right here, diagrammed onto charts for quick reference.” Wednesday walked over to the diagrams outlining the spells they would be focusing that morning.

“Some of you might already be familiar with these basic spells. We will focus first on the Colloportus, which most of you should be able to master by the end of our class. The second spell will probably be a little more challenging; Alohomora. Both of these spells are straightforward—imagine your result, point your wand, and speak the incantation.

“For this exercise, I will pair you up alphabetically by last name. One person will attempt to lock the door, while the other will attempt to unlock.” Wednesday rattled off the names, assigning her students to their doors.

“Cromwell and Domingo will take the red door on the left. Farrell and Krum will take the yellow door in the center. Malibey and Whitefeather will take the blue door on the right.”

OOC: This class will run on REGULAR dice rolls, which you should all be familiar with by this point. (Click the dice icon above the REPLY box. Click D100, adding the code to the bottom of your role-play and click submit. DO NOT edit any post—I will delete them and mark all edits as void.)

I am allowing an unlimited amount of rolls to get the desired effect. You must take turns using both spells in turn.

    For instance:
    • Student A is locking, and will continue to roll until they complete one successful lock.
    • Student B will then unlock and will continue to roll until they complete one successful unlock.
    • Once both students are successful, they may switch so that Student A is unlocking and Student B is locking.

For any students that finish before the end of the week, I will offer separate charms as extra credit. (All extra credit spells will be worked within the team thread but can be worked on separately or together with your partner.)

Grading (and rp guidelines) will be as follows:

Colloportus (LOCK) and Lumos (Extra Credit)
    Dice Roll: 1-9—Nothing happens.
Dice Roll: 10-49—Lock jiggles but does not lock. (Wand light flickers but does not stay illuminated.)
Dice Roll: 50 and up—Lock successfully engages. (Wand light successfully illuminates.)

Alohamora (UNLOCK) and Orchideous (Extra Credit)
    Dice Roll: 1-29—Nothing happens.
Dice Roll: 30-74—Lock jiggles but does not unlock. (Wand produces a few pedals or leaves, but nothing else)
Dice Roll: 75 and up—Lock successfully disengages. (Wand successfully produces a bouquet of the casters favorite flower.)

Since this class is set up for everyone to be successful, the only grades handed out will be for the extra credit spells attempted AFTER the required assignment.

Extra credit attempts will be limited to three per spell and a Pass/Fail will be assigned based on success at the end of those tries. All students who attempt an extra credit spell will earn their coven 10 points PER SUCCESS.

Wednesday looked at each of her first years and smiled brightly. “Are there any questions before I turn you loose?”

Kerry raised his hand. "Professor, what is this Lumos and Orchideous? Does that have anything to do with the door?" Locking and unlocking doors; Kerry was already thinking about the fun he could have at home over the summer.

Wednesday smiled at the boy. She enjoyed the male energy a mixed group of students brought to her lessons. Sometimes the girls can be a little too girly...

"That's a good question..." she replied, pointing the the corresponding charts hanging on the wall for the extra credit spells. "Considering I never mentioned the extra credit spells or what they were." I'll have to mention that tidbit to Denna.

"Since Kerry has been so gracious to explain that there will be extra credit allowed once your assignment is completed," she winked at him once again, "I will explain further to any student interested in tackling that once they've been successful with the first two spells outlined. These charts will explain the effects of both the Lumos and Orchideous charms.

"Are there any other questions, students?"

Kerry shut his mouth and wandered over to his door, where--it was Raven, he remembered--was already standing. How the heck did I know that? he thought. It wasn't like . . . he didn't know what it was like. No, it was like an Annie Moment; she's always seeing things, it seems like.

He looked at Raven and smiled--
