    Just wait a damn second--

The Attack was almost 110 points!

Jeez, even a *ahem* blind person could see this one.

Annie's attack is modded due to the attack strength. I can do that.

    I am a ... well, I'm a GM.

Ellen loses her wand and is still blind. Attack goes to Annie.

    Carry on.

Ellen felt the wand rip from her hand. No! It can't! But it was. She head it clatter but, because she still couldn't see, had no idea where it was. She quickly feel to her knees and began feeling for it.

"Where is it?" she cried. "Annie, help me find my wand! Please!" She was on the verge of breaking down, but wasn't about to do it here, in the library, in public.

The place where Annie should have felt pity was strangely empty. She glided over to Ellen's wand and picked it up.

"I'll search over there, Ellen," she said, and left the girl scrounging around on the floor knowing it the roles were reversed, Ellen would have kept attacking. Annie placed Ellen's wand on the kiosk and leaned against it, waiting for her to regain her sight.

In another two minutes Ellen's sight returned. Still on the floor, she looked about but couldn't find her wand. She didn't knock it that far, did she? "Annie?" she finally asked. "Did you find my wand?"

Annie picked it up, holding it delicately between her fingers. "Alder wood?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "That's interesting. What's its core?"

Rising slowly to her feet, Ellen composed herself and walked over to Annie. "It's a dragon's heartstring," she said, very calming. "It's rare. There aren't many like it, you know."

She didn't know how to respond to that. Why doesn't she get shitty with me? she thought. It would be easier to be upset.

"I don't know, Annie." Ellen looked around, as if she had a big secret to tell. "I do that at times. I get angry, I get ... I get like possessed." She looked Annie over closely. "Don't you ever feel like something's wrong with you?"

Annie smiled. Boy, if she knew the truth. "I think you should talk to Professor Lovecraft. You won't be able to work any of these spells unless you get that under control." She shifted her weight and ran her fingers through her hair.

"My mother used to tell me every night, 'The cyclone derives its powers from a calm center.' So does a person, Ellen."

This was all so confusing. Annie was talking down to her like she was a... child or something. And yet, what she said made sense to Ellen. If only this little witch wasn't so smug about it! she thought. I'm only suffering from nerves: if she ever faced me when I wasn't like this....

"You may be right," she finally said. "And Lovecraft has been helpful to..." Ellen's face screwed up as she remembered their past conversation. "I'm sure she could help, but I need only a bit of instruction." The self-assured Ellen was instantly back. "Maybe you're the one really in need of Lovecraft's instruction, Annie!"

She smirked. "Assuming you have what it takes to be a dark witch." The smirk turned sardonic. "You certainly didn't look like one after your boyfriend was hit with a Killing Curse."

Everything about the evil creature in front of her repulsed Annie. She felt the sting of Ellen’s words and reacted—her knuckles turning white as she gripped her wand. “You take that back,” she spat at the insolent girl.

Before Ellen could so much as take a breath, Annie narrowed the gap between them and let the spell rip from her wand, “Silencio!”

When Annie pulled her wand and pointed it at Ellen, the later girl was shocked: she's attacking me! was her first thought. She was just having fun with Annie, and now the crazy bitch attacks her!

Ellen was ready to curse her back when it hit her... the attack... but something else. Something she'd only felt once before. Oh, snap! That was dark magic! Ellen was so ready to mess Annie up now. Screw this witch! Her it comes--

She thrust her wand forward and spoke the incantation... or tried. But as she spoke it felt as if her vocal cords were twisting back on themselves, knotting or something. She couldn't even cry out in pain because when her mouth opened nothing came out.

Nothing, not a soft grunt, not even a slight hiss of air.

She backed away from Annie, angry but a little scared at the same time. Damn little witch, Ellen thought. She will so regret that.

In time. In the right time....

Coraline noticed the dueling between Annie and Ellen and was impressed by Annie's calm and control. The other girl however...she's a mess. Wednesday is going to have her hands full with that one.

When Ellen lost her wand, Coraline felt the atmosphere in the room change. Annie tensed; Coraline held her breath.

"Annie!" she yelled, scrambling to the other side of the library. Too late to prevent Annie from attacking Ellen, Coraline made it before Annie could get off another attack while Ellen was still mute.

"Ellen," she placed her body in front of Annie's. "Please retire to your coven immediately. Anna can escort you and stay with you to practice if you wish to continue training."

She stood firm, holding Annie's trembling body behind her own until Ellen and Anna were both safely gone.

When they'd gone, Coraline turned around to face Annie. "Are you alright, Annie?" she asked. The girl was clammy and pale. "Annie?"

When Annie came to, she was staring up into the circular rafters of the library. This can't be good, she thought. Her head ached as she sat up in one of the cots set up for the triage area.

Annie guessed the dueling practice had ended because the library was curiously silent. She hopped down and poked her head out of the white fabric dividers.

Coraline was finishing up in the Hospital and was about to go check on the Library triage when there came a soft buzzing at the back of her head--the same buzzing she'd come to expect whenever there was about to be a school-wide broadcast.

Given everything that was happening, if Deanna was going school wide, Coraline knew it was 50-50 good/bad news--

Attention all, Deanna said, her voice speaking in everyone's mind as it did in Coraline's. Prefects will lead all students to the Coven and Hall dungeons and institute a Phase 3 Sealing. The Hospital and Library Triage will activate shield charms and stand by to receive casualties. That is all.

Coraline hurried out into the hall, pulling out her wand. She pointed it into the void just beyond the hall railing and began in incantation. Within moments the air shimmered as the shield fell into place. Phase 3 means we've been breached, she thought. Coraline knew this shielding would keep out intruders but should allow their own people to apparate in and out--with a bit more effort, but such was defensive magic.

And then she was off to the Library, 'cause Coraline had to get her volunteers calmed and ready for action.

She saw Trevor outside the Library getting his side of the shielding in place. Right before she entered two people apparted in: Coraline had a wand on them instantly but relaxed seconds later when she recognized they were part of Madam Chai's ground patrol. Before she could say anything to them she heard Mathias speak to her: Coraline, Deanna and I are on our way. Expect us within moments.

Turning to the duelers Coraline asked, "Did anyone go to the hospital?" Both nodded, and Coraline was relieved. "Okay, give Trevor any help he needs," she said, then rushed into the library/triage.

Clapping her hands loudly Coraline raised her voice and told the assembled collection of wide eyed staring students, "Okay, people, this is it: show time!"

Just as Coraline was gathering her charges together Matthias apparated into the triage site. Feeling the pressure of the moment, he swiftly walked up to Coraline and, taking her by the arm, led her a few steps from the students before speaking.

"Just a quick update," he said, his voice soft and low. "Deanna's already in the Hospital; I'm heading over there after this. We know there was a breach; some Death Eaters made it through and... Dementors as well."

He glanced over his shoulder as if he expected to find students standing next to them, listening in. "We're not sure how many got in. Victoria said maybe 8 Dementors got through before the shield sealed itself--" He held up his hand when it became apparent that Coraline was going to ask the question. "Vickie said something like 100 Dementors hit the shild--bam, bam, bam, one after another. It was enough to ripple it, or so she thinks.

"Her estimate is fewer than a dozen of each got through, but they're in the woods--" Matthias shrugged. "They've gone to ground and Chai's people are looking for them. The big problem they have right now is someone kicked off one hell of a charm and it's cut out their air-to-air communications." He paused, sighed, the leapt onward. "We can speak to Victoria, but she's having problems speaking to Isis, Adric, Harpreet... all her people. Everyone."

Turning to Coraline--they'd been speaking heads bowed up to now--he put a finger to his lips while conjuring up some thought. When it was apparent he had nothing further to say on the matter, he shook his had. "Welcome to magic in the 21st Century," he said.

Matthias headed for the door and the Hospital. "We'll keep you informed. And don't worry; we'll keep our end safe," he said, his voice rising as he stepped into the hall and out of sight.

The first injury arrived at 2:47, a Ceridwen dueler who’d tangled with a Death Eater and caught a fair amount of natural shrapnel when the later used Bombarda Maxima on the trees around him. He hadn’t been injured much; it was a matter of removing the splinters and giving him a healing potion before sending him back into the fray.

2:54 saw the first casualty. Two flyers brought in a 5th Year Bloeddewedd Quidditch player who’d been struck by a Dementor when the shield breached and had fallen some 40 meters from his broom. They already knew his condition, and all Coraline could do was bow her head and have one of her orderlies take the student’s body to the morgue in the dungeon.

    And then there was quiet.

Coraline had a good idea that an intensive game of hide-and-seek was happening beyond the Pentagon Walls, and all they could do was hold their position and be ready to fight and/or abandon their position once word was given. Trevor had stood by, wand ready, for almost an hour now, and though Coraline had no idea what his skills were light, based upon the intensity of his stare she gathered he would put up a hell of a fight should it come to that.

And then 3:13 rolled around and there was a flurry of activity. First there was one dueler—a 6th Year girl from Åsgårdsreia followed by a 5th Year boy from Mórrígan who’s been ambushed and cursed by separate people. The girl was mended with a quick charm and sent back out, but Coraline thought it best to send the boy to the hospital Main Ward, as he seemed to have trouble understanding his whereabouts or even who he was.

And just as the boy was sent off to the ward two duelers apparated in; between them was a young girl wearing flying gear who looked completely delirious. “We got a Dementor attack here,” one of the students carrying her said as they hoisted her onto a stretcher. “Her and another flyer were at the Quidditch stadium trying to get into the tunnels….”

Annie rushed over to help, as the new student was loaded onto a cot. “A dementor,” she whispered to herself while helping the girl out of her flying gear. She noticed at once that she was a first year and that she looked familiar. Her and another flyer were at the Quidditch stadium… If that’s true, what happened to the other student?

Annie looked back at the doors expecting to see someone carried in behind the girl, but there was nothing. She considered the girl on the cot for a moment while Nurse Coraline took her vitals and her stomach dropped as the realization hit her. This is the girl from the Madness. She must have been with Kerry. Her eyes hardened as she folded her arms tightly across her chest.

As soon as Nurse Coraline left to retrieve some chocolate, Annie stepped closer…waiting.

Emma was finally relaxing. Her nerves were still shot, and her head still felt like it was filled with angry bees, but she was in the... it looked like the library. And the Head Nurse was seeing to her.

And... "Annie?" She turned her head a little more. "Annie." Her voice was soft, but a little shaky. "You're so lucky." She sighed, her face breaking into a warm smile.

Emma smiled, feeling like she was floating. "He saved me," she finally whispered. "He told me I wouldn't die, and... he saved me." She reached out and touched Annie's arm as the first tear feel. "If he'd do that for me, he'll do anything for you." She closed her eyes and clenched them tight. "My head hurts... it's like it's still there."

When she opened them again, her eyes were misted over. "He's coming back; I know it." She patted Annie's arm as if sharing a secret. "He'll come back to you."

Annie was near hysterical by this point. This girl is no help at all, she thought, her mind racing as to where Kerry might be at that very moment. Her arms began to ache from where her fingers gouged the skin. She grabbed the girl by the shoulders and wrenched her up from the cot.

“Tell me what happened! What do you mean he saved you? Why the hell were you foolish enough to need saving in the first place?” she screamed, the tears flowing freely down her face. “Where IS he?”

Emma didn't know why Annie was getting so upset, though she might if her head didn't buzz the way it did. "We tried getting underground after the breach," she said slowly. "We hid by the Dark Arts House, but there was fighting, so Kerry thought we could get into the tunnels at the quidditch stadium--"

Crying softly, Emma said, "I went to the tunnel door and there was a Dementor and... it attacked me... it was killing me and Kerry..." She sobbed once, then held he next one back. "Kerry attacked it with a broom, pushed it off, and... he made it chase him." Emma looked like she was about to breakdown completely. "He flew out of the stadium calling for help..." Her faced screwed up hard and the tears flowed harder. "I'm sorry, Annie, I didn't mean for that to happen!"

Annie let go and stepped back. She was shaking; her skin cold and clammy. “If he doesn’t come back in one piece…and breathing, I’ll be back for you,” she said, glaring at the blonde-haired girl.

She moved the fabric divider between herself and the stupid girl. She breathed deeply. If she stays out of my line of sight…I’ll be less inclined to harm her. She fisted her hands; her knuckles turning a powdery white, and went to see if there was any news on Kerry.
