Dropping her gaze to the floor Emma chuckled. "You're a really nice guy," she said, then looked up, a smile on her face but absent from her eyes, "and really sweet... but you know nothing about girls."
Emma slid closer and her voice once more dropped to a whisper. "Kerry, when they brought me in I was out of it, but not so out of it I didn't know what was going on." She'd been debating mentioning this, but knew she needed to have it said. "When Annie saw me come in and found out I'd been flying with you, she got frantic. I mean..." She swallowed hard. "I've never seen my mother act like the way Annie did over my father, and they really love each other."
Her eyes warmed up as her smile broadened. "Trust me: right now would not be the time to tell Annie I kissed you." She shrugged. "Maybe a few... months... or years." Giggling, Emma added, "You'll mess up things with Annie if you do." She gently touched Kerry's forearm. "You gotta believe me, Starbuck: don't do any more crazy things."
