Returning the cage Empty Returning the cage

Post  Annie Krum Wed Aug 03, 2011 7:17 pm

Annie knocked on their professor's door, eager to return the empty cage to her. She turned the knob and entered. "Professor," she called into the room, before pushing the door wide.

She glanced up at Kerry and whispered, "Do you suppose she's not in?" Just then, she heard a low growl and her heart stopped.

"What was that..." Annie backed up a few steps and the hair on the back of her neck stood up. "Maybe this was a bad time, Kerry."

Kerry looked around and didn't see anything. Then it hit him: Professor Kishna could likely "vanish" things a lot bigger than a cat . . ..

"I think it's okay," he said, crossing his finger. "Or . . . maybe we could wait outside the door. But I'm thinking--" He looked around the office. "If there was something dangerous loose in here, it'd have gotten us already."

Annie was just about to agree with him, when the growl came again. She dropped the cage and jumped into Kerry's arms.

"What was that..." As her eyes adjusted to the dim light of the office, she saw movement behind Professor Kishna's desk. Is that a... Her eyes widened as she realized she was staring into the amber eyes of a lioness.

She clutched Kerry tighter, unable to move an inch, as the lioness padded around the desk and tilted her proud head at them both. Great, I vanish a few kittens to get eaten alive by their much larger cousin...

Kerry held onto Annie with one hand and had his wand ready in the other . . . and you're going to do what, hero? he thought. Knock its wand out of its . . . paw?

But something didn't seem right. They were staring down a lioness, and it was there, looking to pounce . . . and it didn't. Why not? So it only made sense--

"Annie," Kerry whispered into Annie's ear as he lowered his wand, "We're in the Transfiguration House. Do you think that's a real lioness?" Still holding onto Annie, he asked in a louder voice, "And can wizards and witches change into animals?"

Annie could hardly believe she'd forgotten that... "Yes, Kerry. Of course you're right." She took a deep breath and let out a nervous laugh. "Wizards and witches that can transfigure into animals are called Animagi. They can morph themselves into a specific animal at will."

Annie still clutched to Kerry as she said, "I apologize, Professor. Of course it must be you. Who else would be here in your office."

At the conclusion of Annie's apology the lioness began to morph, quickly shrinking and sliming as it rose upon its hind legs. As the feature quickly changed from feline to human, clothing appeared around the form of the now-obvious woman. Seconds after the transformation began, Jessica was standing before the 1st Years.

"Come in, Annie, Kerry," she said. Examining the cage Annie carried, she said, "I see you didn't waste time with your homework." She looked the cage over, feeling the kitten inside move about as she changed the orientation. "Very good work. You don't have quite the feel as..." Jessica cast a glance at Kerry, hesitant to say what some of the other instructors had called him over dinner. "Kerry has for Transfiguration, but you do have talent."

She set the cage on her desk. "Now, if you'll both excuse me, I have to head over to my tower for Coven business before the next class." She gave them each a small nod after their, "Bye, Professors," and slowly closed the door behind them. Now to change some of these animals back before the next class--
