Jessica didn't waste much time with Anna. "Listen up, Anna," she said, then went into the same explanation she'd given to the rest of the class before Ella and she had barged in.

"I hope you have all that," she said, then gave the girl a warning, "because if you cause another disaster like the one last week, I'm going to wear you back to my tower." She nodded at Anna then spun on her heel and crossed the room to Ella's cubical.

Anna couldn't believe how she was being treated. "I should tell the Headmistress," she muttered as she pulled out her snail. A snail. Is Kishna kidding? She must think we're children...

Anna was going to show her. This shouldn't be too hard at all... She flicked the wand around and said, “Evanesco.”

What the heck is this? Anna thought as she stared at the snail. It's a snail! It should have vanished!

She huffed. "So what?" she said to no one then twirled her wand again. “Evanesco.”

"Oh, you gotta be kidding!" Anna didn't think she'd said it that loud, but Kishna gave her a warning look that said she should keep her mouth shut. Biach probably gave me a cursed snail, Anna thought.

She shook the beaker a bit, just in case there was a charm around it. Satisfied there wasn't, she put the beaker down, did her wand twirl and chanted, “Evanesco!”

The snail vanished, confirming that Kishna probably had cursed the snail or charmed the beaker--or both! That's not gonna happen this time, she thought. She picked up the mouse cage and gave it a violent shake. The mice bounced around the cage a bit, dislodging whatever curse ol' sneaky witch Kishna had put on them.

Now watch this! Anna thought as she zeroed in on the first mouse. “Evanesco!” she nearly yelled as she twirled her wand.

The mouse vanished and Anna squealed with delight. "See!" she said in a louder than should have been voice while looking across the room to Ella. Kishna gave her another look, and Anna got the message: Open your mouth again and I'll shut it.

Turning away from Kishna, Anna concentrated on the second and last mouse. "You're gonna vanish like now!" she said while twirling her wand, then evoking the word: “Evanesco!”

Only Mr. Mouse was gonna be a pain about things. Anna didn't do anything differently from the first mouse, and she was pretty sure she'd shook off any charms, so it must have been the wand or something.

The heck with it, she thought. She caught Malibey out of the corner of her eye making one of the kittens vanish. No way! she thought, He's gettin' help! Of course the Muggle was a teacher's pet, so Kishna probably pre-charmed the kitten....

She pointed her wand at the mouse, then twirled her wand quickly. “Evanesco.”

Anna was looking at the mouse so she didn't notice at first, but as her gaze turned to her wand she noticed her hands were slightly... faint. Oh, no! I must have caught backlash! She quickly stuck one hand in her jacket and held her wand hand close to her body, hoping no one noticed.

She wasn't going to let a mistake--if it was a mistake, she thought, looking hard at Kishna--get her down. This mouse is gonna vanish right now! she thought as she twirled her wand over it. “Evanesco!”

Mr. Mouse vanished and joined his buddy in the cage. Anna wanted to sequel again, but knew Professor Meanie would do something like give her a pig nose--or worse--so she kept quiet.

Her hands were still a bit translucent, though. Oh, drat.

Now it was the kittens, and Anna felt a little anxiety. She's never had this sort of trouble with Transfiguration before, though, to be honest, she'd never tried anything as large as a kitten. But I made the dog vanish that one time, so how hard can a kitten be?

It was time to find out. Anna pushed Kitten 1 to the side and did her twirl on it. “Evanesco!”

She thought for a moment that the kitten was going to vanish... it seemed to flicker... and then--nothing. Kitten 1 still here.

"Oh, poo!" she said, almost stamping her foot. She didn't wait to get upset: she did the kitten again. “Evanesco!”

And nothing again! Kitten 1 looked up at her and batted at her wand, wanting to play.

"I'm not here to play, kitty," she said. No, she wasn't: Anna was here to do magic! Just then she saw Krum make one of her kittens vanish, and Anna had to gasp. First the Muggle, then the Muggle lover. She was still pissed at Annie for all that "Actin' like a Dark Witch" stuff she laid on her one night. What do she know?

Like Anna said, she wasn't there to play around. Twirling the wand over Kitty 1 she spoke with force: “Evanesco!”

The kitty was still here, but Anna was starting to smell something fishy. Right then Malibey made his last kitten vanish and Kishna went over and gave him a pat on the back and awarded 10 coven point. Anna had heard a lot of the schools in Europe was Muggle lovers, but she didn't think the U.S. would be that bad. At least Salem was a tougher school than Sky and Summit or Cascades.

Anna felt a little frustrated. If she didn't nail these next couple of spells she'd run out of time, and she knew she was as good at Malibey. Time to vanish, Kitty.

A little twirl and... “Evanesco!”

As the kitten vanished Anna gave a self-satisfied smile. I knew I could do it, she thought, and moved the second kitten away from the other so she could make it go the way of the first.

"I'm not here to play," she mumbled, then evoked the spell: “Evanesco!”

Kitten 2 was going to be as tough with her as Kitten 1, but Anna wasn't in the mood right now. No, she had to show Kishna that she knew what she was doing--and that she didn't blow things up, that was just a simple mistake!

Do this now! she thought, spinning the wand and saying loudly, “Evanesco!”

Drat, drat, drat!! The second kitten was looking at her, staring like it expected her to play with it. I don't want to play, Kitty Cat, she thought, spinning the wand again, saying the magic word with much more force! “Evanesco!”

The kitten didn't vanish, but Anna's hands did. "Oh, dribbit!" she hissed, 'cause now her wand was hovering in the air with nothing holding onto it. Why am I getting backlash? she wondered, and noticed Kishna staring at her. Anna humphed! and figured out the answer. What can you do when the instructor is out to get you?

Anna sighed, 'cause she knew even if she made this kitten vanish, she probably wouldn't be able to make the other kitten vanish. She saw Kishna giving a kitten to Krum and telling her it was "homework", and Anna wondered if she'd get the same after she made this kitten disappear--

“Evanesco!”

Just as I'd expected, Jessica thought as she walked over to Anna's work space. "Had an issue with backlash, I see," she said, seeing Anna's wand floating in mid-air. "That should wear off in a few hours... should."

She patted Anna on the shoulder. "Gallant try, dear Anna. You should work on your spells this weekend." As Jessica turned away, she said loud enough for all to hear, "At least nothing exploded." She nodded to Anna from over her shoulder. "Clean up your space; when you're done, you may leave."
