    SWI Covens

    Bloeddewedd, the Owl.
House Head: Madeline Palmescoff, Mistress of Magical History.

    House Coven Descriptions BloeddeweddNEW-1-1

The Coven of the Owl is associated with the Goddess Bloeddewedd, the woman made of flowers who was later transformed into an owl for her part in the murder of her husband Lleu. In the times since her transformation the Coven of the Owl has become one not driven by treachery, but rather wisdom and knowledge, and many from this coven go on to become great teachers and philosophers throughout the wizarding world. Even so, other Covens view Bloeddewedd with an anxious eye, wondering if and when they will revert to their original nature.

The Coven of the Owl is responsible for the Institute’s yearly Yule celebration, staring December 19 and ending before midnight on December 21.

    Åsgårdsreia, the Stag.
House Head: Denna Arrakis, Mistress of Divination.

    House Coven Descriptions AsgardsreiaNEW-1-1

The Coven of the Stag is associated with The Wild Hunt, a feared event throughout the history of wizarding, and those of Åsgårdsreia are often associated with change and unrest. Many in Åsgårdsreia go on to become leaders in our world, willing to try and tame the powers that bubble just out of sight. Other Covens are often fearful of the legacy of the Stags, and to see one enraged is a frightful sight.

The Coven of the Stag is responsible for the Institute’s yearly celebration of Samhain, staring at sundown on October 31 and ending before midnight on November 1.

    Cernunnos, the Serpent.
House Head: Holoč Semplen, Master of Herbology.

    House Coven Descriptions CernunnosNEW-1-1

The Coven of the Serpent is one of steadfast ability to face the worst the world can throw at them, often due to their connection to the power of the world around them. Often identified with the Celtic God of Fertility, the Coven is known more for its understanding of nature and the every-present cycle of life. Many of the Coven’s members are experts in potions and herbology, and often become healers.

The Coven of the Serpent is responsible for the Institute’s yearly celebration of Imbolc, also known as Candlemas and St. Brigid’s Day, on February 1.

    Ceridwen, the Boar.
House Head: Jessica Kishna, Mistress of Transfiguration.

    House Coven Descriptions CeridwenNEW-1-1

The Coven of the Boar are the experts in Transfiguration, and the head of this house, going back to the time of The Founding, has been an expert among her peers. But in following the Goddess Cerdiwen, coven members are also renowned for the connection to their muse, and many from the Coven go on to become renowned writers and artists, some even known in the Muggle world under pseudonyms. The Coven of the Boar is also the Institute’s Quidditch champions for the last 8 years running, and for 14 of the last 20 years.

The Coven of the Boar is responsible for the Institute’s yearly celebration of Ostara, also known as the Vernal Equinox, on March 21.

    Mórrígan, the Raven.
House Head: Erywin Sladen, Mistress of Potions.

    House Coven Descriptions MorriganNEW-1-1

The Coven of the Raven are some of the most respected and feared members of the school, as they are adherents to the Goddess Mórrígan, who represents battle and strife. Though many see then as being very much like the Coven of the Stag, many Ravens will say that while Stags try to control the unrelenting powers around them, the Ravens embrace and use them to their advantages, and many of the Coven become Aurors within a few years of graduation. The Coven’s dueling club, the Valkyries, are the undisputed masters of dueling, winning the Institute’s Dueling Cup 8 of the last 10 years.

The Coven of the Raven is responsible for the Institute’s yearly celebration of Beltane, also known as May Day, on May 1.
