Caldwell Niche

As much as Anna bothered Jessica, she knew the girl was annoying because she wasn't the best wand in the draw... Ella, on the other hand-- Jessica had already had one run-in with her, and came close to turning the girl into a rat for most of the afternoon. She's vain and nasty, Jessica thought as she stood before the sullen girl. A combination of traits found in most of the people we dealt with last Monday--

She walked Ella through the lesson, noticing the girl was only half paying attention to her. Jessica couldn't make Caldwell learn: that was up to her. And if she wants to crash and burn, so be it.

As she turned to leave, she warned Ella: "Try not to explode the animals, Ella." Jessica's smile was cold. "You might not enjoy taking their place for the next class."

Ella smirked as Kishna walked away. "I'll make you one of the animals some day," she mumbled under her voice. The last week and a half was one she wanted to forget. What she thought was gonna be a cool day turned into some major embarrassment in the library/triage, then being treated like a clown because of her voice, then the Saturday night crap of getting banned from the Madness because she said Kerry was an idiot--which he was, but it seemed like she was the only one who knew that.

Anyway ... don't worry about that now, she thought, grabbing the flask with the snail. Show these fools who's good!

Ella didn't bother with a warm up: she knew it was either you felt the spell, or you didn't. And she felt it.

A quick twirl and the incantation: “Evanesco.”

Ella huffed when the snail didn't vanish. Oh, great. I don't need this! As with most things, Ella knew there were times when you needed to get a little rough with your magic....

She spun the wand time quickly and nearly shouted, “Evanesco!”

When the snail vanished Ella looked around as if to say, See? That's how you do it! Though no one was really looking at her, as they were intent on making their own animals vanish.

So, if it worked well that time, she thought as she pulled out the cage with the mice, it's going to work this time. She singled out one of the mice and did her spin and shout: “Evanesco!”

As the mouse vanished Ella was feeling much better. Yeah, losers are always underestimating me! she thought. She didn't need to go swinging a broom at a Dementor--she had her own mad skills that didn't involved having your soul sucked from your body.

Then again, she thought, glancing over to Annie, Kerry better get used to having his soul sucked dry if he stays with that little witch.

No mind. The other mouse awaited. Spin and--“Evanesco!”

But this mouse didn't disappear, and Ella wondered what the deal was. I didn't do anything wrong, she thought. Just like the first two times. Oh, who knew. For all she knew it wasn't even a real mouse. Kishna could have changed a bear into a mouse for all she knew, which would make the spell harder. It's probably going to change back at any moment and rip off my face, she thought. Let it; I'll rip it back, 'cause I'm good at dueling!

"Just do it," she said, then twirled and said, “Evanesco!”

Now this was seriously messed up, 'cause Ella knew she hadn't changed anything in her style and mousy was still visible. Stupid mouse! You're suppose to be gone from my sight!

She violently twirled her wand and once more shouted, “Evanesco!”

There was a moment when she didn't think the mouse would vanish, then it become translucent, then transparent, then it was no longer. That's the way to do it, she thought. You have pure witch's blood in you, and you are good!

Three kittens and then she could blow this heat-soaking class. Ella was on a roll and there was no need for finesse now!

First time up on the kitten and nothing happened. Ella saw this was typical; she didn't get results right away, but given time... "I'll show these people," she mumbled, which she seemed to be doing a lot this morning. "I'm not a morning person," she reminded no one in particular, then twirled her wand and once more shouted, “Evanesco!”

And still the silly kitten didn't vanish. Much like Anna had thought earlier, Ella debated if Kishna had maybe given her charmed animals. Ella didn't put that past the witch. She was an evil one: a killer if you believed the stories--

Big deal. Killing isn't that hard; just turn the person off. Ella smirked. "What's so difficult about that?" she said aloud, then looked about to see if anyone had heard her speak. She saw Kerry make a kitten vanish, and she resisted the urge to run over and curse him like his stupid girlfriend had cursed her. How would you like it, Annie, if everything darling Kerry looked at you he vomited? She giggled softly. In time; in time.

Right now she had a date with a cat--

“Evanesco!”

And nothing again! This kitten must be pre-cursed, Ella thought, and she picked another, figuring to get back to the first in a moment. Now she saw Annie vanish a kitten and the anger was becoming more pronounced. "I'm going to do it now!" she said quietly.

A spin of the wand tip and a mighty, “Evanesco!” should to the trick--

As soon as the kitten disappeared Ella thought, Just like I thought: cursed kitten. Ella wasn't going to play Kishna's game; now that she knew she couldn't possibly end up doing as well as her stars she resigned herself to making this last kitten turn invisible and then tell Kishna off for screwing her.

She looked over the third kitten and figured there was a good chance this one was cursed as well. They don't want you to be the best, she thought. They all want to keep you down. Don't let them!

"This kitty is gonna vanish," she said, then did her thing with the wand. “Evanesco!”

Kitty didn't vanish; kitty still here.

Ella was getting pissed. Was everyone out to make her look bad? Kerry packed up his thing: apparently he'd made all his animals invisible. Oh, whoopee-do! Isn't Mr. Dementor Bait just all sorts of wunderful! She stuck her tongue out at him, then got back to her kitten. This time for sure, she though, you will disappear--

“Evanesco!”

Ella was on the verge of going nuts with everything in this goofy class. The kitten wouldn't vanish; butt kissing students were getting all the attention. Why am I even here? she thought. Wasn't it bad enough that Hogwarts wouldn't even look at her application? I should be there, I should be in Slytherin, I should be... Well, she didn't know what she should do after that, but she knew she belonged there, not here.

Ella signed. The cat needed to vanish, and like right now!!!!

She shouted, “Evanesco!”

The kitten remained; Ella had enough.

"Screw this kitten!" she yelled, and twirling her wand she screamed, “Evanesco, Evanesco, Evanesco!”

Jessica grabbed Ella's wand hand before she could do anything else--like strike the kitten with it, which is what she appeared ready to do. "Ella!" she shouted, getting a startled glare from Ella in the process. "That's enough! You're done for the day."

She whipped the girl's arm down and spun Ella so she was facing her. "Your attitude is atrocious and form despicable! You act out like this in my class again, I will turn you into a rug!" She didn't bother for a response; Jessica wasn't interested in one. "Pack up your things and leave! And 10 points from Åsgårdsreia." She narrowed her eyes watching, waiting to see if Ella would even respond.

Eventually she did, picking up her books and storming out. I need to watch this one, she thought. She's going to do something stupid; the headstrong, self important ones always do....
